How to find an Australian Apprentice

There are many ways to learn more about Australian Apprenticeships and to find acandidate. You can contact an AusNAC Centre in your region who will be able to assist you in your search, and help your advertise your position and source candidates in your area.

  • Contact your local AusNAC member.
  • Recruit someone you know or who has been recommended to you and contact your local apprenticeship for help with the legalities of the set up process.
  • Advertise the position in a local paper or on Australian Job Search.

Employing an Australian Apprentice

You make all the hiring decisions with an Australian Apprenticeship. AusNAC Centres can organise for you to share an Australian Apprentice with another business if you don't have enough work for an ongoing or full-time position. You can also engage an Australian apprentice part-time while he or she is still at school through an Australian School-based Apprenticeship.

There are many ways to employ an Australian Apprentice including through an Australian Workplace Agreement or Certified Agreement (or State equivalent). Contact your local AusNAC Centre for more information about hiring an Australian Apprentice.

Set up a Training Contract

Australian Apprenticeships operate on the basis of a formal Training Agreement between an employer and the Australian Apprentice.

The Contract protects both you and your employee's interests. It also outlines your obligation to provide training, specifies the qualification to be achieved by your Australian Apprentice and explains their obligations to you.

Training contracts are registered with your State and Territory Training Authority.
