AusNAC WORKCO Limited is currently working with Rural Ambulance Victoria (RAV) providing traineeship pathways for their station masters in the qualification Certificate IV in Government. RAV are providing the opportunity for 96 of their Victorian staff to enter a training program through the University of Ballarat to enhance and formalise their existing workplace experience and knowledge. AusNAC WORKCO Limited is the preferred Australian Apprenticeships Centre with sign ups being carried out in 12 locations across Victoria. With 80 participants aged 45+ over, 83% of this cohort will be mature aged.
In April/May 2007 the Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) working in partnership with AusNAC WORKCO Limited offered existing staff the opportunity to consider training options which would assist them in the workplace. 32 staff took advantage of this educational opportunity commencing traineeships in Certificate IV in Government, Certificate III in Home and Community Care and Certificate IV in Aged Care. 65% of participants were aged 45+ with the average age being 49.8 years of age. The Horsham Rural City Council was recognised for this initiative winning an award as one of the best home care employers in Victoria and New South Wales. At a graduation dinner in Melbourne, the council won the 2007-2008 LINK Employment and Training Council Training employer of the year award. Community Services Manager Angela Murphy representing HRCC said “the team-building aspect of this process has been amazing considering our carers work in isolation”. “We can only put these opportunities in front of them but it’s the staff commitment that makes all the difference”.
