If you are an Australian Apprentice with a disability, your employer may be eligible for assistance under the Australian Apprenticeship Incentives Programme.
A range of assistance is available to support Australian Apprentices with a disability, including Disabled Australian Wage Support (DAAWS) which is paid to your employer, and assistance for tutorial, interpreter and mentor services.
Assistance is also available through the Workplace Modifications Scheme which pays the cost of modifying a workplace or purchasing special equipment. Your employer can access the scheme directly or through the Disability Employment Network, the Job Network and Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Disabled Australian Apprentice Support is the Australian Government incentive payable to an employer who employs an Australian Apprentice with a disability in an Australian Apprenticeship.
The support is also available to a employer who employs an Australian Apprentice who becomes disabled during the apprenticeship or traineeship.
An employer of an Australian Apprentice with a disability who satisfies the eligibility criteria may receive an incentive of either $104.30 a week for a full time Australian Apprentice, or a pro rata amount for a part time Austrlian Apprentice.
Turorial, interpreter and mentor services are available to Australian Apprentices with a disability who have been assessed as eligible for Disabled Australian Apprentice Wage Support and who require additional assistance with their off-the -job training. These payments are made directly to the relevant Registered Training Organisation providing or facilitating the service.
Financial assistance available for these services is $38.50 an hour up to a maximum of $5500 annually.
